Nu er weer ruimte is voor beweging en contact, ben je bij …ism project space van harte welkom voor een tentoonstelling over de hoest en ander leed. Kunstenaar Sanne Kabalt wordt aangetrokken tot ziekte, gekte, dood en verlies. Onzichtbaarheid en onzegbaarheid vormen het uitgangspunt voor nieuwe beelden, fotografie, video. Haar werk raakt aan het meest kwetsbare in ons bestaan, maar biedt ook ruimte voor gesprek, woorden en gedachten. De tentoonstelling bij …ism zoomt in op de hoest die onze huidige tijd zo kenmerkt, en is tegelijkertijd de start van een reis door ruimte en tijd die reikt tot een nieuwe poëtische kosmos, voorbij de dood.
Je bent welkom om deze imaginaire reis -in aanwezigheid van de kunstenaar- mee te maken. Bij de tentoonstelling verschijnt ook een publicatie.
Sanne Kabalt (1989, Amsterdam) studeerde fotografie aan de HKU in Utrecht en Dutch Art Institute in Arnhem. Naast tentoonstellingen in binnen- en buitenland vormen residenties en publicaties een vast onderdeel van haar praktijk.

Artist Sanne Kabalt is attracted to illness, madness, death and loss. Invisibility and ineffability are the start of new images, photography, video. Her work touches on the most vulnerable in our existence, but also provides space for conversation, words and thoughts. The exhibition at …ism zooms in on the cough which characterizes the present moment, but at the same time it is the start of a journey through space and time. reaching to a new poetic cosmos, beyond death.
You are welcome to experience this imaginary journey in the presence of the artist.
Sanne Kabalt (1989, Amsterdam) studied photography at the HKU in Utrecht and the Dutch Art Institute in Arnhem. In addition to her international exhibitions, residencies and publications are a permanent part of her practice.

Hgtomi Rosa @ …ism project space
Kunstenaarsinitiatief Hgtomi Rosa is te gast bij …ism project space voor een tentoonstelling waarin de tekening centraal staat. Het project komt voort uit de belangstelling voor tekenen als praktijk en de waardering voor mensen die tekeningen in hun leven gebruiken.
Hgtomi Rosa heeft 30 kunstenaars uitgenodigd om één tekening te tonen. De tekeningen kunnen verschillen in grootte, functie, leeftijd en succes. Het kunnen schetsen zijn, uitleg, kaarten met routes erop, instructies, tekeningen uit de kindertijd, spontane of substantiële visuele gedachten. Of een afgewerkt kunstwerk. De kunstenaars reageren op elkaars tekeningen middels commentaren, geschreven gedachten en interpretaties. Op deze manier wordt de tekening als uiting van de gedachte in woord en beeld met elkaar verbonden. En op eigenwijze getoond binnen de fysieke ruimte voor nieuwe gedachten die …ism pleegt te bieden.
Uw komst wordt gewaardeerd als volwaardige bijdrage aan Drawing Appreciation Day.

Artist initiative Hgtomi Rosa is a guest at …ism project space for an exhibition in which drawing is central. The project stems from the interest in drawing as a practice and the appreciation for people who use drawing in their lives.
Hgtomi Rosa has invited 30 artists to show one drawing. The drawings may differ in size, function, age and success. They can be sketches, explanations, maps with routes on them, instructions, childhood drawings, spontaneous or substantial visual thoughts, drawings that were made to share with other people or a perfectly finished work of art. The artists respond to each other’s drawings through comments, written thoughts and interpretations. In this way the drawings are connected with each other as an expression of thought in image and word. And displayed within the physical space that …ism offers as a space for new thoughts.

Alexandra Verschuuren – (Peek Show)

Performance kunstenaar Alexandra Verschuuren heeft haar intrek genomen bij …ism project space voor een twee weken durende interactie met de voorbijgangers die de projectruimte op het Westeinde passeren. Het project (Peek show) is ontstaan vanuit haar performance-onderzoek ‘Get a room’, dat draait om de vraag hoe je een voorstelling in een privé omgeving creëert. Tijdens haar verblijf in… ism project space construeert ze particuliere situaties waarbij de mensen in de straat door de ramen zicht hebben op haar bezigheden en zo een geconstrueerde voyeur worden.
Alexandra Verschuuren (Ohio, 1997) studeerde in 2020 af als danseres en choreograaf aan ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de kunsten. De essentie van haar performatieve praktijk komt voort uit de behoefte om de tegenstrijdigheden van performance en de relatie tussen performer en toeschouwer te onderzoeken. Zij zal dagelijks in de ruimte actief zijn.
Het project is van 22 februari tot en met 5 maart van maandag t/m vrijdag tijdens kantooruren te volgen vanaf de straat. Op verzoek is het mogelijk om een ontmoeting te organiseren.

Performance artist Alexandra Verschuuren is taken up residence at …ism project space for a two-week interaction with the passers-by at Westeinde in The Hague. The project (Peek show) is initiated from her performance research (Get a room), which revolves around the question of how to perform in private. During her stay at …ism project space, she constructs private situations where people passing by have a view of her activities through the windows and thus become a constructed voyeur.
Alexandra Verschuuren (Ohio, 1997) graduated as a dancer and choreographer at ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de kunsten in 2020. The essence of her performative practice stems from a need to explore the contradictions of performance and the relationship between the performer and spectator.
The artist will be active in the space on a daily basis. You are welcome to pass by.

SJIMMIE VEENHUIS – SPATIUM
Sjimmie Veenhuis (1984) maakt installaties waarin hij alledaagse materialen in hun oorspronkelijke vorm gebruikt en een transformatie laat ondergaan. Bij …ism project space maakt Veenhuis een installatie waarin hij zijn werk aan de actuele werkelijkheid toetst. Veenhuis onderzoekt wat er binnen zijn werkwijze nog mogelijk is in een anderhalvemetersamenleving zonder zijn eigen taal, materiaal en praktijk te verloochenen. Zowel praktisch als inhoudelijk staat het begrip veiligheid daarbij centraal.
De ruimtelijke installatie ‘SPATIUM’ is directief, monumentaal, formeel en maakt optimaal gebruik van de gegeven ruimte en tussenruimte van …ism. In het werk waarin alledaagse verschijningsvormen en het bevragen van de betekenis daarvan het vertrekpunt is, heeft de actualiteit zich op een onverwachte wijze opgedrongen. Is het mogelijk om een installatie te maken waarin de huidige maatregelen worden gehonoreerd zonder dat veiligheid daarmee een doodlopende weg naar voorspelbaarheid faciliteert?
De tentoonstelling is tijdens de online editie van Hoogtij ook offline te bezoeken op 27-28-29 november.

Sjimmie Veenhuis (1984) creates transformative installations in which he uses everyday materials in their original form. At …ism project space, Veenhuis created a spatial installation in which he tests his work against the current reality. Without denying his own language, material and art practice, Veenhuis investigates what is still possible in a one-and-a-half-meter society. The concept of safety is central in both practical and substantive terms.
The installation ‘SPATIUM’ is directive, monumental, safe, formal and it makes optimal use of the given space and in-between space of …ism. Is it possible to create an installation in which the current measures are honored without safety facilitating a dead end to predictability?
During the online edition of Hoogtij, the exhibition will therefore also be visited offline Hoogtij on 27-28-29 November.

Lost in a one way space

Het zijn onzekere tijden voor jonge kunstenaars. Daarom maakt …ism project space ruimte voor drie startende kunstenaars die hun opleiding deze zomer hebben afgerond. De alumni studeerden aan drie verschillende academies maar werken allen site-specific.
De kunstenaars hebben elkaar bij ..ism ontmoet en gaan er ook samen enkele weken aan de slag om een tentoonstelling te voltooien. Daarmee zijn zij zowel met elkaar als met de specifieke ruimte van …ism in dialoog. De kunstenaars zijn lost in a one way space…
Werner van der Zwan (Den Haag, 1995) is afkomstig van de Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam en creëert levende sculpturen die een ruimte en context nodig hebben om te kunnen bestaan. Ruben Golstein (Helmond, 1994) komt van AKV|St.Joost in Den Bosch en reageert met eigenzinnige (geluids)installaties op mogelijkheden en met materialen die de wereld hem te bieden heeft. Eva Sigurðardóttir (Siglufjörður, IJsland, 1993) voltooide haar opleiding aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag. Zij werkt multidisciplinair en onderzoekt menselijk gedrag en communicatie in een interactieve ruimte.
De eerste groepstentoonstelling bij …ism belooft een spannende confrontatie te worden.

These are uncertain times for young artists. That is why …ism project space makes room for three starting artists who have finished art academy this summer. The artists are educated at three different academies but all work site-specific.
The artists met at ..ism and will work together for a few weeks within the space to complete the exhibition. In this way they are in dialogue with each other as well as with the specific spatial possibilities of …ism. The artists are lost in a one way space…
